European Cartoon Award 2026: Call for Entries
The European Cartoon Award (ECA) has officially opened its call for entries for the 2026 edition. Founded in 2019 by Studio Europa Maastricht, the award aims to encourage cartoonists in their vital role in societal dialogue and to stimulate conversations about Europe. The 2026 edition is organized in partnership with the Museum for Sound & Vision, with support from the City of The Hague and the Stimuleringsfonds voor de Journalistiek.
Participation Rules and Eligibility
The competition is open to cartoonists operating in the 46 member states of the Council of Europe, as well as Belarus and Russia. Key submission criteria include:
- Publication Period: Submitted works must have been first published between July 2, 2025, and July 2, 2026.
- Media Requirements: Entries must have appeared in European media outlets, including newspapers, magazines, or news websites (print or online).
- Entry Limit: A maximum of three cartoons per participant is allowed.
- Language: Cartoons must be submitted in their original language, accompanied by an English translation in the entry form.
Technical Specifications and Submission
All entries must be submitted electronically through the official online form. Submissions via email will not be accepted.
- Format: Works must be in JPEG format, with a minimum resolution of 1080 x 1080 pixels.
- Judging Process: Entries will undergo three rounds of voting by an independent panel of judges. The jury will select a winner, a runner-up, and up to two honorable mentions.

- Submission Deadline: July 2, 2026
- Award Ceremony: November 27, 2026 (The Hague, The Netherlands)
The shortlist of nominees will be published on the official European Cartoon Award website following the preliminary judging rounds.
