Young artists from the Cartoon Workshop of Bayraklı Municipality in İzmir, Türkiye, celebrated the end of the academic year with a remarkable exhibition featuring cartoons dedicated to environmental awareness.
The exhibition, held as part of the municipality’s annual arts showcase titled “One Year of Effort, One Stage of Light”, brought together works created by children who attended the municipality’s BASAMAK art courses throughout the year. The opening ceremony was attended by Bayraklı Mayor İrfan Önal, art instructors, students and their families.
A special section of the exhibition was devoted to cartoons created for World Environment Day (June 5). The collection includes 24 cartoons produced by young cartoonists under the guidance of cartoonist and instructor Mustafa Yıldız.
What makes this exhibition even more special is its international dimension. The same collection was exhibited in Russia last week through the cooperation between Bayraklı Municipality and the Russian Cartoon Club, allowing the children’s messages about protecting the environment to reach audiences beyond Türkiye.
During the opening ceremony, certificates specially prepared by Bayraklı Municipality and the Russian Cartoon Club were presented to the young participants. Mustafa Yıldız and his students attended the event together, celebrating a successful year of creativity, learning and international cultural exchange.
Speaking after the exhibition, Mustafa Yıldız expressed his pride in his students:
“Yesterday was another day of pride for me. The year-end exhibition of my students from the Bayraklı Municipality Cartoon Workshop opened with a magnificent ceremony. Mayor İrfan Önal toured the exhibition, talked with the children one by one and took photographs with them. The cartoons created for World Environment Day had already been exhibited in Russia last week. I was delighted to present the certificates sent from Russia, along with those prepared by our municipality, to my students.”
The exhibition stands as a vivid example of how cartoon art can encourage children to express their ideas, raise awareness about global issues and build bridges between cultures at an early age.
