Cartoonist and Illustrator Alper Ocak Passes Away

Alper Ocak, one of the respected figures of Türkiye’s cartoon and humor scene, passed away on July 30, 2026.

Working across a wide range of creative disciplines as a cartoonist, illustrator, graphic artist, animator, and 3D modeller, Ocak’s death caused great sadness among his family, friends, colleagues, and readers. According to information shared within the Turkish humor community, he died after suffering a heart attack.

His Drawings First Gained Attention in Pişmiş Kelle

Born in 1972, Alper Ocak first attracted widespread attention with his drawings published in the Turkish humor magazine Pişmiş Kelle. He later contributed to several well-known publications, including L-Manyak and Gırgır.

Known for his distinctive visual language and his ability to combine humor with observations from everyday life, Ocak made a lasting contribution to Turkish cartooning and humor publishing over many years.

Best Known for His “Sit Alanı” Column

Alper Ocak was particularly recognised for his long-running cartoon feature “Sit Alanı.”

In recent years, he continued producing work for Ters Dergi, where his cartoons and illustrated stories were published online. His contributions also included series such as “Gündemi Kovalayan Adam” and “Ne Günlerdi Lan!”, alongside drawings inspired by daily life in the Aegean region.

Ocak was remembered by the publication as a versatile artist with a deep interest in computers, video games, animation, and visual storytelling.

He Also Worked in Animation and Character Design

Alper Ocak’s creative output extended far beyond newspaper and magazine cartoons. He also worked in illustration, graphic design, character development, 2D and 3D animation, concept art, and digital modelling.
