The New Cartoonist has released Issue #12, its July/August 2026 edition, bringing together interviews, features, reviews and a wide-ranging selection of cartoons from contributing artists.
Based in the UK, The New Cartoonist is a bi-monthly digital magazine dedicated to cartoonists, comic creators, illustrators, animators and fans of cartoon art. Since its launch in 2024, the publication has provided a platform for both established and emerging artists while covering different aspects of contemporary cartooning.
The cover of Issue #12 features British cartoonist Chris “Dink” Williams, who is also the subject of one of the issue’s main interviews. The magazine includes Martin Colyer’s Behind the Critic, reviews, news from The New Cartoonist, Mark Winter’s selection of favourite animated shorts and a substantial collection of cartoons from different artists.
The issue also introduces readers to the magazine’s newly updated website and its subscription options.
One of the highlights of the July/August edition is “Beach Toons,” a special selection devoted to the issue’s beach theme. The section brings together different takes on beaches, summer holidays and seaside life, ranging from everyday observations to more surreal and satirical interpretations.
Feridun Demir’s cartoon “The Vacation Package Includes Inner Chaos” is among the works featured in the Beach Toons selection.
The cartoon plays with the familiar promise of escaping everyday life on holiday. A woman arrives at the beach looking for some peace and quiet, only to discover that anxiety, burnout and childhood traumas have apparently travelled with her — visualised as their own unwanted presence beside her deckchair.
The two-page Beach Toons spread features Demir’s work alongside cartoons by several other artists, each approaching the beach theme from a different perspective.
Issue #12 also includes the magazine’s regular features and contributions, with its cover advertising 200 different cartoons inside.
The New Cartoonist continues to invite cartoonists to contribute to future editions, with each issue providing opportunities for artists to submit work around selected themes as well as for other sections of the magazine.
