AAEC Announces Public Events for Its 2026 Convention in Sacramento

The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists will hold its 2026 convention in Sacramento, California, from September 17 to 20.

The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists (AAEC) has announced the public program for its 2026 convention, which will take place in Sacramento, California, from September 17 to 20.

Alongside its members-only convention schedule, the AAEC will hold a series of events open to the public at several locations in Sacramento.

Exhibitions

Editorial Cartooning Across Sacramento

Two exhibitions will be on view during the convention period. “Drawing the Capitals” will be presented at the Sacramento History Museum, while the Sacramento Central Library will host an exhibition on Sacramento’s history through editorial cartooning.

September 17
The public program begins with “Collecting Political History” at the Sacramento History Museum. Later that day, the Crocker Art Museum will host “Drawing Democracy with AAEC Members.”
September 19
Two public caricature classes will be held at B.F. Hastings. The AAEC’s awards ceremony and reception will take place that evening at the Sacramento History Museum.

The convention also includes a members-only program at the Central Sacramento Library. Several workshop slots on the current schedule are still listed as “TBD,” with further details yet to be announced.

Beyond the convention itself, Sacramento is preparing a wider program of cartoon-related exhibitions and events extending into October.

Across the City

A Wider Cartoon Program

Beyond the convention itself, additional cartoon-related events are being organized across Sacramento. According to The Daily Cartoonist, Sacramento organizer Maryellen Burns is coordinating a program extending into October at venues including the Sacramento History Museum, Sacramento Public Library, Celebration Arts, Sacramento State, Amatoria Fine Art Books and the Crocker Art Museum.

Among the cartoonists expected in Sacramento are Pulitzer Prize winners Jack Ohman, Joel Pett, Matt Wuerker and Ann Telnaes, along with New Yorker political illustrator Steve Brodner. Some of the additional events are still being finalized.

About the AAEC: The AAEC is a professional organization dedicated to editorial and political cartooning and to supporting free speech and a free press. Registration for the 2026 convention remains open until September 1.
