Brazilian cartoonist Thiago Lucas emerged as the major winner of the 53rd International Humor Salon of Piracicaba, taking both the thematic award and the Grand Prize – Zélio de Ouro Trophy.

The winners were announced during the opening ceremony at Teatro Erotides de Campos in Piracicaba on August 29.

Lucas’s work had already won the Salon’s thematic category, “Artificial Intelligence vs. Human Intelligence,” before being selected for the Grand Prize. The cartoon shows a line of candidates waiting for a job interview alongside a figure made from cardboard boxes and marked “IA” — the Portuguese abbreviation for artificial intelligence.

The image addresses the impact of artificial intelligence on employment and the possibility of technology replacing human workers.

Lucas receives R$7,500 for the thematic award and a further R$15,000 for the Grand Prize.

The 53rd International Humor Salon of Piracicaba runs at Armazém 14 in Parque do Engenho Central, Piracicaba, through November 1, 2026. Admission is free.
