More Than 50 Piracicaba Cartoons Go on Display in Porto
A selection from the 52nd International Humor Exhibition of Piracicaba is on view at Art Spot in Porto throughout September, in partnership with the PortoCartoon World Festival.
More than 50 drawings selected from the 52nd International Humor Exhibition of Piracicaba are being shown in Porto this month, bringing a cross-section of the Brazilian salon to the Art Spot gallery at Alameda Shop & Spot.
The exhibition opened on September 1 and continues through September 30, 2026. Presented in partnership with the PortoCartoon World Festival, it brings together cartoons, caricatures and satirical illustrations by artists from several countries. Admission is free.
The works were selected from the 52nd edition of the International Humor Exhibition of Piracicaba, held in Brazil in 2025. That edition brought together hundreds of works from artists around the world, continuing a history that dates back to the salon’s first edition in 1974.
The Porto presentation is not built around a single artist. Instead, it offers a selection of different approaches to cartoon, caricature and graphic satire, with subjects drawn from public life and contemporary events.
From Piracicaba to Porto
The exhibition adds another chapter to the relationship between Piracicaba and PortoCartoon, two long-running events built around international cartooning and graphic humor.
In Porto, the collaboration takes the form of this month-long selection from Piracicaba. A few days after the Porto exhibition opened, the connection is also due to appear in the opposite direction.
The programme of the 53rd International Humor Exhibition of Piracicaba includes PortoCartoon: Caricaturas de Chico Buarque, an exhibition of international caricatures devoted to the Brazilian musician and songwriter.
According to Piracicaba’s official programme, the Chico Buarque works come from the collection of Portugal’s Museu Nacional da Imprensa, the institution that organises PortoCartoon. The exhibition is scheduled to open at Shopping Piracicaba on September 8.

Two festivals, two collections
Piracicaba’s International Humor Exhibition has been part of Brazil’s cartoon scene for more than five decades, bringing together cartoonists, caricaturists and illustrators from Brazil and abroad.
PortoCartoon, organised by the Museu Nacional da Imprensa in Portugal, has developed its own international network and collection. The two September exhibitions make that relationship visible in both cities: a Piracicaba selection in Porto, followed by a PortoCartoon collection in Piracicaba.
