ANIMASYROS 2026 | Official Open Call for Entries
The ANIMASYROS International Animation Festival returns to the island of Syros from September 21 to 27, 2026. As the largest animation event in Greece and one of the top 20 globally, the festival invites creators from across the world to submit their animated films for its 19th edition.
A Tribute to Hermoupolis & Ireland
The 2026 edition is dedicated to the “200 Years of Hermoupolis,” celebrating the bicentennial of the capital of Syros. This year, the festival features Ireland as the focus country, presenting a dynamic program that captures contemporary international trends.
Visual Identity by Petros Christoulias
The visual identity of ANIMASYROS 2026 is signed by the acclaimed illustrator and comics creator Petros Christoulias. Inspired by the city’s anniversary, Christoulias has reimagined the festival’s mascot as Hermes, symbolizing movement, connection, and the activation of imagination within the historic port city.
Submission Guidelines & Competition
The festival features 7 competition sections, including Professional, Student, Greek, K.ID.S, and Animapride (LGBTQI+) categories.
Important Rules & Terms:
- Deadline: Submissions must be received by June 1st, 2026.
- Eligibility:Â Only animated films with a first public screening after January 1, 2025.
- AI Policy: Creators are obligated to disclose any use of AI (Artificial Intelligence). Please note that films utilizing AI are not eligible for the competition categories.
- Platform: Submissions are accepted exclusively via FilmFreeway.
