Uncharted Territories Design Competition 2026 has officially opened submissions, inviting designers from around the world to create an original poster inspired by an article, map, chart, or idea published by Uncharted Territories.

Known for transforming complex global issues, data, and maps into engaging visual stories, Uncharted Territories is now looking for a poster design that can both communicate a meaningful idea and become a memorable object worthy of hanging on readers’ walls.

Participants are free to choose any concept, map, or article from the publication as inspiration. Entries must be prepared in A2 (420 × 594 mm) or 18 × 24-inch format and may be submitted in either portrait or landscape orientation. Designers are required to upload a screen-resolution JPG or PNG preview, while the final print-ready version will only be requested from the winner.

The competition is particularly attractive for graphic designers working in editorial design, information design, data visualization, cartography, and visual storytelling. Submitted works will be displayed publicly unless participants opt out, and audience engagement may be taken into account during the process. The final decision, however, will be made by Tomas Pueyo, founder of Uncharted Territories.

Eligibility

The competition is open worldwide to anyone aged 18 or above, except where prohibited by law. Employees, contractors, and immediate family members of Uncharted Territories are not eligible to participate.

All submitted works must be original. Any third-party assets such as fonts, illustrations, or photographs must be licensed for commercial use. The use of AI tools is permitted only if clearly disclosed in the submission form; undisclosed AI-generated content may result in disqualification.

Prize

The winning designer will receive US$1,000, paid within 30 days after written acceptance. In addition, the winning work will grant Uncharted Territories an exclusive commercial licence to produce and sell print editions of the poster.

The organizers also note that the selected design may become the flagship product of a brand-new Uncharted Territories online shop and could lead to future commissioned design opportunities.
