Content Vienna 2026 Opens International Call for Innovative Digital Design Projects

The Vienna Business Agency has officially launched Content Vienna 2026, an international competition designed to support innovative digital design projects that combine creativity, technology, and entrepreneurial potential. Organized by the City of Vienna’s business development agency, the program aims to strengthen Vienna’s position as one of Europe’s leading hubs for creative digital media.

Unlike many design competitions that focus on completed works, Content Vienna welcomes projects that are still under development. Prototypes, demo versions, and conceptual ideas are all eligible, provided they demonstrate originality, innovation, and strong implementation potential.

A Wide Range of Creative Digital Fields

The competition is open to projects across numerous digital disciplines, including:

  • Video games
  • Augmented Reality (AR)
  • Virtual Reality (VR)
  • Animation
  • Visual Effects (VFX)
  • 360° video
  • Interactive storytelling
  • Web and mobile applications
  • Digital publishing platforms
  • Serial online content
  • Wearable technology
  • Machine learning
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Quantum computing-related creative projects

This broad scope reflects the rapidly evolving landscape of digital creativity, encouraging interdisciplinary approaches that merge design with emerging technologies.

New Focus on Digital Health

A major addition to the 2026 edition is the Digital Design for Health category, which encourages projects addressing health, wellbeing, care, and mental health through innovative digital solutions.

Entries will be evaluated by an independent jury based on several criteria, including creative quality, innovation potential, professional expertise, implementation planning, budget feasibility, and the project’s expected impact.

Up to €10,000 in Production Grants

The Vienna Business Agency will award up to five production grants worth €10,000 each, along with a dedicated €10,000 Digital Design for Health Special Prize, presented in cooperation with the Open Innovation in Science Center of the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft.

Selected applicants may also receive the Content Vienna Connecting: South by Southwest Special Prize, which includes:

  • A travel grant of up to €1,500
  • SXSW 2027 conference ticket valued at more than €1,200

Additionally, projects receiving a production grant or the Digital Design for Health award may qualify for an extra €1,000 Women’s Bonus when women hold demonstrable leadership roles within the project.

Who Can Apply?

The competition is open to adult entrepreneurs, individuals planning to establish a business, startups, creative studios, companies, associations, and other legal entities. Applicants may submit one unfinished and previously unreleased digital project, provided it has a qualifying connection to Vienna.

Importantly, there is no entry fee, making the competition accessible to a wide range of emerging and established creative professionals.

For digital creators working at the intersection of technology, storytelling, design, and innovation, Content Vienna 2026offers not only financial support but also valuable international visibility and networking opportunities.
