The international cartoon humor exhibition “Call for Iran” will open on August 1, 2026, at Chyž – Center of Independent Culture in Spišská Nová Ves, Slovakia.
Presented as part of the Living Statues cultural event, the exhibition brings together works by cartoonists from Iran and several other countries. The collection examines the human consequences of geopolitical tension through satire, dark humor and powerful visual metaphors.
An International Artistic Response to Crisis
The exhibition was initiated by Iranian cartoonist Saman Torabi and Peter Rázus, curator of the Brain Sneezing Gallery in Prešov.
Focusing on the tense and often uncertain situation involving Iran, the United States, Israel and other countries, the participating artists explore emotions that are rarely associated with conventional humor.
The works include elements of darkness, cruelty, fear and hopelessness. At the same time, many of the cartoons express hope for peace, freedom and positive change.
Iranian Cartoonists Featured in the Exhibition
The exhibition includes works by prominent Iranian cartoonists:
- Javad Takjoo
- Mojtaba Heidarpanah
- Saman Torabi
The three artists have previously exhibited in Prešov, where their work attracted attention for its strong artistic quality and distinctive visual language.
The international collection is further enriched by works from leading cartoonists, including Viktor Bogorad, Marcin Bondarowicz, Angel Boligan, O-SEKOER and other artists.
Cartoons as a Universal Voice
“Call for Iran” demonstrates how cartoon art can cross political and cultural borders, even during periods of deep geopolitical crisis.
Through satire, symbolism and visual storytelling, the participating artists address conflict from a human perspective. Their cartoons invite viewers to consider the emotional and social consequences of political decisions while calling for understanding, dialogue, peace and freedom.
The exhibition also offers audiences in Slovakia an opportunity to encounter a diverse international collection in which graphic humor becomes both a form of artistic resistance and a universal language of solidarity.
