In the heart of Wrexham, a young local artist is transforming her battle with cancer into an inspiring display of creativity. “Seirian versus the Leukamians”, the new pop-up exhibition by 9-year-old Seirian Richards, uses humor, cartoon art, and meaningful symbolism to tell the story of her journey through Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) treatment.

A Child’s Creative Response to Illness

Over the past two years, Seirian has faced the challenges of leukaemia treatment head-on. In February 2025, she celebrated a major milestone — ringing the end-of-treatment bell.

Her exhibition at Tŷ Pawb is more than a gallery show; it’s a testament to how humor, art, and family support can transform even the most difficult moments into something beautiful and uplifting.

What’s on Display?

  • Bright Cartoon Art & Humor – Including a joke book created by Seirian to cheer up other children in the hospital.
  • Mother–Daughter Artwork – Paintings made collaboratively by Seirian and her mother, Amanda Richards, during long hospital stays.
  • Beads of Courage
    • Beads of Courage UK gives children a bead for each stage of treatment, representing different tests, procedures, and milestones.
    • Seirian has collected 1,731 beads, which Amanda has hand-stitched onto canvases, turning them into striking visual art pieces.

Amanda shares the emotional heart of the project:

“Chemotherapy is toxic, hard-hitting, and has horrendous side effects. But it’s also lifesaving. With this collection, we hope others can see the magnitude of treatment in a visual way — finding beauty in the beast that is cancer.”

Why You Should Visit

This exhibition is more than just art — it’s a story of resilience, hope, and the healing power of creativity. It offers a unique chance to see how a child’s imagination can shine even in the face of life-changing challenges.
