Back to the Essence: The 15th International Olive Cartoon Contest 2026
The prestigious Kyrenia Municipality and the Cypriot-Turkish Cartoonist Association have officially announced the 15th International Cartoon Contest. Held as part of the 25th International Olive Festival in Cyprus, this year’s competition comes with a bold challenge for artists: a return to the roots of the craft.
The Challenge: Pure Black & White
In a world increasingly filled with digital gradients and AI-generated art, the 2026 contest is drawing a line in the sand—or rather, on paper. The committee has transitioned back to the “essence of cartoon art.” Only cartoons with black lines on a white background will be accepted. This means no gray shades, no colors, and absolutely no AI-generated works.
Contest Themes
Participants can submit works in two categories:
- The Olive Subject: Exploring the olive tree’s relationship with history, mythology, peace, war, and life itself.
- Free Subject: Any topic of the artist’s choosing.
Key Details for Participants
- Eligibility: Open to all amateur and professional cartoonists over 18.
- Format: A4 or A3 size, text-free, original black and white drawings.
- Deadline: April 15, 2026 (via post only—hand delivery is not accepted).
- Prizes: Winners in both categories receive cash prizes (up to €800), the Golden Olive Statue, and travel/accommodation for the award ceremony in Cyprus.
