36th International Festival of Cartoon & Humorous Literature Announces 2026 Competition in Romania

Cartoonists from around the world are invited to participate in the 36th International Festival of Cartoon & Humorous Literature – “Humor at… Gura Humorului”, one of Romania’s longest-running humor and cartoon events.

The festival will take place on July 10–11, 2026, in Gura Humorului, Romania, bringing together artists, writers, and humor enthusiasts to celebrate satire, creativity, and freedom of expression.

Theme: PROPAGANDA

For its 36th edition, the festival challenges artists to explore the theme “PROPAGANDA”, a subject that remains highly relevant in today’s media-driven world.

Participants are invited to submit original cartoons created after January 1, 2026. Entries must not have been previously published, awarded, or submitted to other competitions.

Participation Rules

Each artist may submit up to two cartoons for evaluation by the international jury.

The competition is open to both adult and young participants, with separate prize categories for artists under 18 years of age.

Artificial intelligence-generated artworks are strictly prohibited.

Technical Requirements

• Maximum of 2 cartoons per participant
• Digital submissions must be sent in JPG format
• Postal submissions must be in A3 or A4 format
• Free technique
• Works must be original and unpublished

Participants must also include:

• Completed entry form
• Short biography (CV)
• Personal photograph or cartoon self-portrait

🥇 First Prize – €500

🥈 Second Prize – €300

🥉 Third Prize – €200

🏅 “George Gavrilean” Debut Prize (Bucovina) – €200

Under 18 Category

🥇 First Prize – €100

🥈 Second Prize – €50

🥉 Third Prize – €25

The jury may decide not to award certain prizes or may redistribute them as deemed appropriate.

Additional special prizes may be offered by sponsors, associations, media organizations, institutions, companies, or private supporters of the festival.

Important Information

There is no entry fee.

The winner of the First Prize will be invited to join the jury of the next edition of the festival on a voluntary basis. Should the winner decline, the invitation will be extended to the next prize-winning artist.

The winners will be announced online by July 7, 2026. Diplomas will be sent by post, while cash prizes will be transferred via bank transfer.
