ANNOUNCEMENT: International Caricature Competition of Camilo Castelo Branco – New Deadline: May 18, 2026

As part of the “Camilo Through the Inland Lands” project, celebrating the Bicentenary of the birth of the renowned author Camilo Castelo Branco, the Municipalities of Vila Real and Ribeira de Pena are organizing an International Caricature Competition.

The primary objective of this contest is to celebrate the author’s connection to these regions and to bring his literary figure and work into contemporary daily life, stimulating a rediscovery of his bibliography through the art of caricature.

Participation Guidelines and Requirements

• Eligibility: The competition is open to both national and international artists, whether amateur or professional.
• Originality & AI Policy: All submissions must be original works. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools is strictly prohibited. Participants must declare that their work is original and not AI-generated.
• Technical Specifications: Entries must be submitted in A4 format with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. All manual or digital drawing and painting techniques are acceptable.
• Language: Any text or words included in the artwork must be in Portuguese.
• Submission Limit: Each artist may submit a maximum of two (2) caricatures.

Submission Process

To ensure a valid entry, participants must complete the following two steps by May 18, 2026:

1. Digital Submission: Send the artwork via email to entrequemle@cm-vilareal.pt
2. Physical/Postal Submission: Simultaneously, a physical print of the work or a USB drive containing the digital file must be mailed to the following address: Município de Ribeira de Pena (Attn: Ricardo Carvalho) Praça do Município, 4870-152 Ribeira de Pena, PORTUGAL.

Note: The postal entry must include a sealed envelope containing the author’s details (artistic name, full name, address, phone number) and the signed declaration of copyright transfer.

Awards and Recognition

The jury will evaluate submissions based on creativity, originality, linework, and visual impact. The following prizes will be awarded:

• First Prize: €2,500 (including VAT)
• Second Prize: €1,000 (including VAT)

Key Dates:

• Announcement of Winners: May 21, 2026.
• Notification of Entrants: By May 30, 2026.

Selected works will be featured in exhibitions held in Vila Real and Ribeira de Pena. A dedicated exhibition catalogue will be produced, and participating artists will receive a copy.
