Istanbul Comics & Art Festival 2026 Brings Together Comics, Illustration and Independent Art in Istanbul

The 9th edition of the Istanbul Comics & Art Festival (ICAF) will take place on June 13–14, 2026, at Paribu Art in Kadıköy, bringing together comic artists, illustrators, cartoonists, publishers, designers and independent creators from across Türkiye and abroad.

Since its launch in 2016, ICAF has evolved from a niche comics gathering into one of Türkiye’s most significant independent art festivals. Dedicated to visual storytelling and creative culture, the event has become a meeting point for artists working in comics, caricature, animation, street art, illustration, graphic design and independent publishing.

This year marks the festival’s ninth edition and its first appearance at Paribu Art. Over two days, visitors will have the opportunity to explore artist booths, independent publishing stands, exhibitions, workshops, talks, live performances and collaborative drawing spaces. The festival aims to create an environment where artists and audiences can interact directly while celebrating contemporary visual culture.

One of the defining characteristics of ICAF is its commitment to independent production. Rather than focusing solely on commercial publishing, the festival highlights fanzines, self-published works, underground comics, experimental illustration projects and emerging artistic voices. As a result, it has become an important platform for young creators seeking visibility within Türkiye’s growing comics and illustration scene.

The 2026 program will feature publishers such as Gerekli Şeyler, Kara Karga, Athica, Kayıp Kıta and Flaneur, alongside numerous independent artists and creative studios. Visitors will be able to discover new graphic novels, limited-edition publications, original artworks and contemporary illustration projects while meeting the creators behind them.

Beyond traditional comics, the festival embraces a broad spectrum of visual arts. Animation, street art, graphic design, gaming culture, graffiti and digital creativity all have a place within the ICAF ecosystem. This multidisciplinary approach has helped distinguish the festival from conventional comic conventions and positioned it as one of Istanbul’s most dynamic creative gatherings.

An international dimension will also be present this year. With support from the Embassy of the Netherlands, Dutch and Turkish artists will collaborate on live mural and street art projects during the festival. These large-scale works will allow visitors to observe artistic creation in real time and engage directly with the artists involved.

Live drawing sessions, artist talks, workshops, book signings and panel discussions are expected to attract both professional creators and enthusiasts. Festival organizers emphasize the importance of creating a living cultural space where artistic production becomes visible and accessible rather than remaining confined to galleries or publishing houses.

Over the years, ICAF has built a reputation for celebrating not only established artists but also emerging talents. By bringing together independent publishers, creators, collectors and audiences, the festival contributes to the development of Türkiye’s contemporary comics and visual arts community.

As Istanbul continues to strengthen its position as a cultural crossroads between Europe and Asia, the Istanbul Comics & Art Festival remains a unique showcase for creativity, experimentation and independent artistic expression. For anyone interested in comics, illustration, caricature, animation or urban art, ICAF 2026 promises to be one of the city’s most exciting cultural events of the year.
