Deadline Extended for World Press Cartoon Oeiras 2026
The organizers of World Press Cartoon Oeiras 2026, one of the world’s most prestigious press cartoon competitions, have announced an extension of the submission deadline. The original deadline of 20 June 2026 has now been extended to 30 June 2026, giving cartoonists additional time to submit their works.
Held in Oeiras, Portugal, World Press Cartoon is an international competition dedicated to professional cartoonists and press illustrators. The salon is divided into three categories: Editorial Cartoon, Caricature, and Gag Cartoon.
Only works published between 1 January 2025 and 31 May 2026 in newspapers, magazines, or recognized online media outlets are eligible for participation. Each artist may submit up to six works in total, with a maximum of two entries per category.
According to the official regulations, original artworks created using traditional techniques are accepted, while digitally produced or mixed-media works must be submitted as high-resolution prints. Participants are also required to specify the techniques and software used in the creation of their works.
The organizers clearly state that artworks created using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools will not be accepted.
A total of 10 prizes will be awarded in the competition. The prestigious Grand Prix carries a prize of €10,000, while each of the three categories will award:
- 1st Prize: €3,000
- 2nd Prize: €2,000
- 3rd Prize: €1,000
The Grand Prix winner will be selected from among the first-prize winners of the three categories.
Since its establishment, World Press Cartoon has become one of the most important international platforms celebrating editorial cartooning, caricature, and humor drawing. The event continues to promote freedom of expression and the universal language of graphic humor by bringing together outstanding artists from around the globe.
